The Inner Life of Animals by Peter Wohlleben looks at how different species behave and feel emotions. They’re also intelligent and remember common patterns. Much like humans, animals do feel a variety of emotions. It seems that despite our differences, we share a lot of similarities. ![]() While science is particularly focused on the remarkable evolution of humans, some researchers found a handful of pretty amazing insights about animals and plants too. ![]() 1-Sentence-Summary: The Inner Life of Animals presents complex research on animals and the life of our ecosystem, which is not so different than ours, given that they can feel pain, experience emotions, and share other similarities with us, humans. ![]() 6/29/2023 0 Comments Book rule of wolves![]() A group of soldiers burn themselves alive on orders, and more soldiers are drugged, experimented on, and tortured. This is a genre that began in earnest during the “golden age” of children’s literature in the Victorian era. Blyton’s facile plots and language make these books particularly suitable to be read in different languages without much being lost in translation. Although I grew up in Greece, even I have memories of reading book after the book of the Famous Five adventures (of which, it was announced earlier this summer, a film series is also planned). Her zenith was 1955, a year in which she produced an incredible 70 titles. But her books have also often been labelled racist, sexist, classist, easy reading for the very young, and mass-produced. She had a prolific writing career, phenomenal selling success, and the popularity of her books shows no signs of waning. ![]() Enid Blyton’s Magic Faraway Tree is only the latest children’s classic destined for the silver screen, with a live action film currently in production.Įnid Blyton is one of those children’s authors that everyone recognises, yet many love to hate. Children’s fantasy has become a lucrative global industry, and duly producers are plumbing all kinds of magical authors. ![]() ![]() ![]() She decided that for the following year she would not buy any new books: instead she would read only books she already owned. ![]() The book was sparked, apparently, when Hill was searching for a book and was suddenly struck by the thought that she had hundreds - thousands - of books that she had never read, or wanted to reread, or didn’t even know she owned. ![]() Websites like The Millions, The Rumpus and Open Letters Monthly’s Like Fire section go a little way to sating my desire for book-chat, but I’m sure you can understand my joy when one of my favourite ghost-story writers, Susan Hill, published her own book about books: Howards End Is On The Landing. I’ve been a nerd for books since I was old enough to chew their pages, so what could possibly be better than a book about books? It’s like a cake with another, even more delicious, cake inside. My favourites are Anne Fadiman’s Ex-Libris and Alberto Manguel’s A Reading Diary, and I’ve read them so many times that the words are losing their meaning. I go on Amazon specifically to look at Listmania lists titled ‘books about books’. Book-books are my chosen topic of non-fiction writing, and there just aren’t enough of them. ![]() 6/28/2023 0 Comments Book the sea of tranquility![]() ![]() Gaspery wants to know about a glitchy moment that Vincent captured on video years ago. ![]() (Readers of Mandel’s fifth novel, The Glass Hotel, will recognize Mirella and Vincent.)
